What is Movement Matters?

Movement Matters is a specialized division of The Mind and Movement Project that offers specialized programs for children with ADHD, Autism, and who are differently-abled.

What qualifications do the instructors have?

The instructors of the Movement Matters classes, Kathy Laskowski and Hillary Hurdis, are certified special education teachers who are also certified to teach children's yoga.  Additionally, Kathy has received a certification in Autism Movement Therapy, attended specialized trainings for teaching yoga to children with exceptionalities, and interned with the Sonia Plumb's Dance Company's program, Active Minds, Active Bodies, a dance program for children with Autism.

What Movement Matters classes are currently being offered?

Movement Matters Yoga   All students will learn the power of breath, movement, and meditation/relaxation to assist with self-regulation, motor planning, balance, coordination, strength, and flexibility.  Participants will learn how to promote mindfulness for increased attention and focus.  Games, stories, and props will be incorporated.

Movement Matters Dance   Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of dance while increasing coordination, spatial awareness, balance, flexibility, creativity, and self-esteem.  Songs, stories, and art will be incorporated.
